Hike to The Base of The Towers

We leave at 6:30 approximately, driving on paved road towards Laguna Amarga Park entrance, where registration to the National Park is done. During the trip you can see the Patagonian steppe alternating with native forests.

The hike starts by Hotel Las Torres, taking the trail up the Ascencio Valley through forests and rivers. The final stretch is an impressive glacial morraine, at the top of which you will reach the well-known Base of the Towers look-out. From there you see the three beautiful granite spires and a turquoise lake at their feet. The scenery is spectacular and overwhealming; you will find yourserlf at a truly magical spot. You will then understand why people from all over the World come to see the towers.

This medium/high difficulty level hike takes a whole day, the hiking time being 8 to 9 hours. The way back will be on the same trail and same road, finishing at Puerto Natales.

BEAR IN MIND

  • The car drive takes 2 hours there and 2 hours back.
  • The hike is 21 km long, 8 to 9 hours round trip.
  • 1,000 meters elevation gain.
  • Medium/high difficulty (It is suggested to be in physical shape).
  • Departure is between 6:00 and 7:00 am. from your hotel in Puerto Natales.
  • Return to Puerto Natales at around 7:00 pm.
  • Children pay full price.
  • Your Park entrance must be bought on-line in advance.
  • Your Park entrance will be valid for 3 days.
  • Cancellation and reprogramming policies are 48 hours in advance.
  • The excursion can be suspended due to bad weather (extreme rainfall, snow or strong winds).

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Wear warm technical clothes (in layers).
  • First layer, then fleece or softshell, then down or synthetic down jacket and over that, waterproof jacket.
  • Trekking shoes or boots.
  • Day pack to carry the things your will need.
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen.
  • Warm hat, cap, buff, gloves.
  • Camera!
